Connection and FW update

Connection to the ECU

Bluetooth

Bluetooth - convenient way to connect to the ECU. Android application is connected via Bluetooth.

Pair with "Invent EMS" device. PIN 0000. Bluetooth COM port will appear in the system.

Warning

Firmware update and analyzer do not work via Bluetooth

USB

USB is used to configure, update the firmware, and to use waveform analyzer.

Important

USB is galvanically isolated with the ECU. To connect, you need 12 volts supply to the ECU.

Connection procedure

  1. Select COM port in Commander and press ON.
  2. When using Bluetooth - wait a few seconds to establish the connection. USB connects instantly.
  3. If succeeded, Commander will read all calibrations from the ECU.

Warning

If you see a message: The Commander version does not match the firmware version - you must use the correct version of the Commander for a successful connection.

Firmware update

The ECU is designed in such a way that it cannot be killed by updating the firmware. While power is supplied, connection is established, and processor is working, you can reupload the firmware again.

Warning

Firmware update is possible only via USB cable

Warning

Loading the firmware erases calibrations from the memory

  • Connect to the ECU via USB, using current Commander version
  • IMPORTANT Read the calibrations from the ECU and save to the file.
  • Open tab Parameters - Firmware
  • Select the desired firmware type
  • Press Update and open the firmware file.
  • Wait for the download to complete and close Commander
  • Open the new Commander version and connect to the ECU
  • Open the calibration saved earlier
  • If Commander issued a warning about versions mismatch - review the calibrations, you will probably need to configure new parameters manually
  • Save the calibration to the ECU.
  • Wait 10 seconds after completing and turn off the ignition.

If update failed

You will no longer be able to connect to the ECU - you will see an endless Searching status. This is expected, because there is no firmware inside.

Set your laptop to a performance mode. Close all other applications, including messengers.

  • Turn off the ignition.
  • Select COM port, but do not connect to the ECU.
  • Press Update and select the firmware file.
  • Wait for the message Searching and quickly turn on the ignition.
  • Download should start.

If nothing helps

  • Check the 12V power to the ECU
  • Check whether the COM port is correctly selected.
  • Try another laptop
  • Try another USB cable
